Preparing for a CCR

Image
When preparing for my CCR (Creative critical reflection), I decided I should first remind myself of the questions, so I went to my course and reviewed what a CCR is. After finishing my review, I started to make a rough draft of my answers to questions, and they went like this.  How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? My product will use conventions of nature magazines which uses step by step guides to do certain task, such as picking line for a fishing rod or tips for trailing a rod on the back of a boat . It represents social groups and issues because it communicates and shows newer people the amazing community of fishing.  Do keep in mind that this is only a rough draft and not the final product. Importance of headlines

Image
Headlines are one of the most important things in an article or magazine. When readers load your magazine, they will most likely look at the biggest font and shortest sentence next to or on your illustration. Your big headline is called your teaser or primary headline. This is the one the reader will first see. Under the teaser will be the teller or secondary headline. The message of the spread is seen by the dominant photo and supported by your headlines. If your article doesn't have a good illustration or headline, the reader will skip over it and view something else that catches their attention. Some techniques you can use to write your headline are Alliteration, Antonym, Synonym, Homonym, Onomatopoeia, Rhyme, Pun, Oxymoron, Interjection, or Allusion.  I made an example of a Headline. I used a pun about kittens since it matched to illustration.   Signing off,                         Bradley

how to write and the importance of captions

Image
The next step in my journey to writing a magazine is learning about captions. I learned that captions are important to copy because it provides a brief description of what could be going on in a picture. When writing a caption, I was told that the first sentence should be short and to the point and that it shouldn't drag on and be boring because it is meant to pull the reader in and be able to have the reader visualize that they are there with the actions in the photo. It should contain things such as the people included in the photo, location, and time. After the first sentence, you can include extra information such as dialogue, or extra information not needed in the first sentence. Most captions can be found under the photos or cartoon. This is an example of my basic caption, which included only one sentence that includes, who, what, when, and where. Signing off,                          Bradley

Preparing for an interview

In order to write our magazine, we need to interview 2 people. Before you actually interview someone, you must prepare for the interview. This includes writing your questions beforehand, and getting a recording device. If you would like, you can rehearse asking your questions. After you think your ready for the interview, you can go ahead and do it. Make sure to ask the interviewee for their full name before you start asking questions.  For example, my questions for my magazine will be:  Fishing  Do you think fresh water or salt water fishing is better? Why? What is the best way to cook a fish? If you remember, can you describe your first time fishing?  What can go wrong while fishing?  What snacks do you bring when fishing? which is better, fishing on a boat or fishing on a kayak? What is your favorite fishing memory?  Signing off,                         Bradley

Choosing a genre and topic

Image
After deciding about what my magazine should be about, I had to create a graphic organizer to help visual the different parts of said magazine. Before deciding my topic, I completed assignments that helped me learn about different themes and genres, even completing a case study on magazines.                           -Bubble #1: This bubble is where the topic and genre went                           -Bubbles #2-4: In these 4 bubbles are where I put ideas for pictures                           -Bubbles #5 & 6: These bubbles were two article ideas for my magazine                          -Bubbles #7 & 8: These bubbles include two people who I can interview about my ...

Exploring ideas

When I was deciding what to do my magazine on, I wanted it to be entertaining while being interesting and informative at the same time.  At first I wanted to do hockey because it is something I really enjoy, but after doing some thinking, I decided against it because at the time, I knew nothing about stick curve, stick flex, all the penalties, and the players. All I knew how to do was watch hockey and cheer when my team scored a goal.  The only other hobby I know a lot of info about is fishing. I knew a lot more about fishing than I knew about hockey. Fishing also has more versatility when talking about different things. You can talk about different fishing poles, line, baits, lures, and different species of fish.  Thanks again for reading another post! Signing off,                          Bradley

Getting started

The first step in creating our magazines was learning about publication. Publication is really important because it does multiple different things at once, such as: keeping memories forever allows you to look back at it at anytime  used as a reference  After learning about publication, I had to decide if I wanted to work with a partner or work alone. I decided to work alone because the people I wanted to work with had no idea about the topic I was doing and wanted to do their own topics. After thinking about it, I decided this was for the best because it meant I could design and customize by magazine to be how ever I wanted it.  Thanks for reading another post! Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Bradley and I am in 9th grade. I live in the sunshine state of Florida. Living here is a little weird. Sometimes its cold, but most of the time, its hot. Even though we all complain its too hot here, none of us can handle the cold. Anyway, In my free time, I like to practice my hockey skills outside, watch hockey, play video games, and go fishing. This is where I will document my progression, and creation of my magazine for AICE Media Studies. I will write how my experience is making a magazine, and what I learn from it.  For my magazine, I chose to do it on my second favorite hobby because I means a lot to me. I wanted my magazine to try to help someone else learn how to get started on it.  I am excited to start this project and appreciate you reading it.  Signing off,                    Bradley
